Advocacy

Since 2006, BrooklynSpeaks' sponsors have fought for accountability at Atlantic Yards, both in terms of the project's public benefits and its affordable housing.

  • In 2012, BrooklynSpeaks won a lawsuit charging that when the State extended the allowable build out of Atlantic Yards from 10 years to 25 years, it violated New York State environmental law.
  • In 2014, the State and then-developer Forest City Ratner Companies settled a planned lawsuit from BrooklynSpeaks claiming the delay in affordable housing at Atlantic Yards violated Federal Fair Housing law.
